DJ Khaled takes his record sales seriously. So serious, that the superstar DJ and producer is gearing up to slap Billboard with a massive lawsuit after his album debut in the number two spot.
Khaled claims the organization unfairly disqualified more than 100,000 sales of “Father of Asahd,” and is furious that his album came in at No. 2 after Tyler, the Creator’s “IGOR,”.
The lawsuit comes after Billboard allegedly refused to count downloads sold as part of Khaled’s “bundle deal” that came with an energy drink. Bundle deals have been considered a controversial way to boost album sales through the offer of album downloads and merchandise.
Khaled claims Billboard agreed to count downloads from his energy drink package but later backtracked and disqualified his entire sales from the promotion over claims there were “anomalies” in his figures.
A DJ Khaled source told Page Six,
“When Khaled’s team tried to appeal, Billboard refused to budge.”
The source says the entire situation is extremely unfair because Tyler, the Creator’s bundle deal figures were included in his total sales that gave him the number one spot. On May 30, Billboard announced Tyler debuted at No. 1 with 165,000 albums sold, while Khaled came in at No. 2 with 137,000.
